From Ministry to Mission: Ministering with the Million

By 2030, Ireland will be home to more than one million people aged 65+

Everyone is warmly invited to join us for our July Grandparents’ Faith Café with our special guest, Bishop Denis Nulty — Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin and President of Accord, whose long ministry to marriage and family life makes him a most fitting guide as we prepare for the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly.

July 2026 Grandparents Faith Café — From Ministry to Mission: Ministering with the Million — Keynote Speaker Bishop Denis Nulty — Tuesday 14 July 2026, 7:30pm UK & Ireland / 2:30pm US Eastern

About This Month’s Theme

By 2030, Ireland will be home to more than one million people aged sixty-five and over. Bishop Denis Nulty invites us to see this not simply as a challenge, but as one of the greatest pastoral opportunities before our Church — a call to move “from ministry to mission.” Rather than asking only how we minister to older people, he asks how our parishes can recognise, encourage and support their gifts, wisdom and faith, so that they may continue their own mission of service and hope. Today’s older generation is healthier, more active and more experienced than any before it, with so much to offer — as catechists, prayer leaders, visitors to the sick, mentors to young families and, of course, as Grandparents passing on the faith. Grandparents have a unique vocation of their own — so often the bridge between the generations, keeping families connected, preserving memories and quietly handing on the faith. If every parish discovered the gifts and quiet wisdom already sitting in its pews each Sunday, we might find that the renewal we are praying for has been there all along.

Keynote Speaker

Bishop Denis Nulty

Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin  ·  President of Accord

Bishop Denis Nulty has served as Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin since his episcopal ordination on 4 August 2013. Born in Slane, Co. Meath, on 7 June 1963, the youngest of five children of Den Nulty and Nan (née Balfe), he grew up on the family farm.

He entered St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, in 1981 and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Meath on 12 June 1988. He served ten years as curate in the Cathedral Parish, Mullingar, before becoming Parish Priest of St Mary’s, Drogheda — at the time the youngest parish priest in Ireland — where he remained until his appointment as Bishop.

Within the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Bishop Denis is a member of the Standing Committee, President of Accord Catholic Marriage Care Service CLG, Chairman of the Episcopal Commission for Pastoral Care, Chairman of the Council for Marriage and the Family, and a member of the Council for Clergy. His long ministry to marriage and family life makes him a most fitting guest as we prepare for the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly.
