Celebrating the 5th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly
Today, Sunday 27 July 2025, we joyfully celebrate the 5th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly—a day that honors the wisdom, witness, and indispensable role of Grandparents and elderly in the life of the Church and the family.
Our Founder, Catherine Wiley, joins thousands of pilgrims at Knock Shrine, Ireland, today for the National Grandparents Pilgrimage—a beautiful and prayerful gathering that has become a spiritual home for Catholic Grandparents from across the world.
At the same time, CGA members and chapters around the globe are celebrating this World Day in their parishes and communities—from Australia, England, Gibraltar, Ireland, the Philippines, Malta, and the United States, to countless other places where Grandparents are lovingly passing on the faith.
This year’s World Day theme, chosen by Pope Francis, is: Blessed are those who have not lost hope (cf. Sir 14:2).
In his message for the 5th World Day our Holy Father Pope Leo XIV calls us to:
“lovingly pass on the faith we have lived for so many years […] In this way, we will be signs of hope, whatever our age.”
— Pope Leo XIV, Message for the 5th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly
This speaks deeply to our mission as the Catholic Grandparents Association:
👉 To help Grandparents pass on the faith and keep prayer at the heart of family life.
On this World Day, we invite you to:
- Attend Mass and pray with or for your Grandparents
- Visit or call an elderly person who may feel forgotten
- Offer a prayer of gratitude for the gift of faith passed down across generations
- Pray Pope Benedict XVI’s Prayer for Grandparents, which continues to inspire families around the world
Let us be grateful. Let us be joyful. And above all, let us be faithful.
May Grandparents everywhere continue to be signs of hope—today and always.
