Scottish Pilgrimage at Carfin.

Around 450 people attended the second Grandparents Pilgrimage at the shrine of Our Lady Of Lourdes at Carfin in Scotland last Sunday 19th August, 2012.

Bishop Emeritus Peter Moran led the day and concelebrated Mass with Fr Benny McHale and Fr Liam Rooney. We were delighted to welcome 4 Scottish seminarians who served Mass and led the rosary procession.

In response to our appeal for children to write prayers for their Grandparents we received over 500 beautiful and heart-warming prayers and these were carried in the Entry procession and later put on display. Children also carried heart-shaped signs proclaiming that “Grandparents are special ” and “We love our Grandparents ” ” Grandparents tell great stories “….and many more wonderful things about their Grandparents.

The Motherwell Diocesan Choir under the baton of John Pitcathely added to the celebration of our Faith in a very special way.

Everyone present was delighted with the day and we look forward to next year when we hope Cardinal Keith O’Brien will lead us in honouring St Joachim and St Anne Grandparents of Jesus and all Grandparents both living and dead for all that they have done for us down through the ages.
