BAMBINELLI SUNDAY Gaudete 15th December
A Christmas Blessing for Baby Jesus
We bring you greetings of faith, love, hope and prayer from the Catholic Grandparents Association in this beautiful season of Advent.
Please find below a poster inviting children, families, schools and Parishes to participate in this age old tradition celebrated by our Holy Father, of bringing their “BAMBINELLI’ baby Jesus to Saint Peters Square to be blessed on Gaudete Sunday. This beautiful inspiring tradition was first introduced by Pope Saint John Paul II over 30 years ago.
We know that many, many Churches, particularly in Ireland, have adopted this tradition with great excitement, enthusiasm and energy. This has proved to be enormously successful with children and adults alike bringing their own Baby Jesus for a blessing. The Priest used to bless them individually but now because of popular demand gives the blessing collectively.
This is now an inspiring and motivating way to ensure that children have nativity cribs at home and at school helping them and families to prepare and focus children on the true meaning of Christmas, The birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We humbly ask that you approve and encourage this initiative, display this poster and feature it in your newsletters leading up to Gaudete, the third Sunday of Advent, the 15th of December this year. We also suggest that you brief all teaching staff and advise parents and Grandparents, so that Bambinelli Sunday will become as much a tradition in every Parish as it is with our Holy Father in Rome, helping to put Christ into Christmas.
We pray that your Bambinelli will bring peace and blessings to your home this Christmas and always.
May St Joachim and St Anne, the most famous Grandparents of all time who brought up their daughter in love and prayer in their family home, bless you.
