Book of Remembrance

With the upcoming celebration of the second World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly on 24 July 2022, we wanted to offer a way for parishes to reach out to families who have lost loved ones, particularly grandparents, in the past few years.

While the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly is a celebration, it can also be an opportunity to remember our loved ones in a book of remembrance.

We are suggesting that a simple book of remembrance be opened on 1 July in parishes and that people would be invited to write the names of grandparents, great grandparents and other elders in the family who are no longer with us.

We should then suggest that this book of remembrance be part of the celebration of Mass in the parish for the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly on the weekend of 23/24 July. We also suggest using the forget me not flower with the book of remembrance as this is the flower associated with grandparents.

This is a very simple initiative but might mean the world to families who would love to still have their grandparents and elders with them.
